    Position Summary

    The Senior Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) functions as a key support for Firestone Industrial Products’ (FSIP) Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) customers in the coordination and timely completion of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), quality reporting, quality investigations and corrective/preventative actions (CAPA). The CQE also supports the overall Quality Management System by conducting audits of both corporate and plant quality systems. Working with cross functional Channel Management Teams, the CQE represents the Quality function and provides feedback and data on customer specific requirements, PPM and warranty data. Successful completion of the CQE functions helps FSIP to meet and exceed customers’ expectations of the performance of our products.


    • Interpret and communicate customer specific requirements to division and plant personnel that must be met upon initial submission of specific parts and on-going performance requirements
    • Establish and monitor metrics that quantify Firestone quality and delivery performance to our OE customers
    • Recommend and advise plants regarding policies, procedures and work instructions to comply with ISO/IATF requirements
    • Assure that air springs are designed in accordance with the APQP process and comply with customer specific requirements
    • Represent the quality function during launch phases for all types of air springs
    • Review customer drawings and technical requirements prior to PPAP phase to assure that customer requirements are clearly stated and understood
    • Coordinate the PPAP process for North American plants to meet customer submission targets
    • Promote standardization and error-proofing of equipment, materials, components and processes to continuously improve the quality of finished parts
    • Investigate reason for customer/field complaints, provide written/verbal response, and coordinate corrective action implementation in design or manufacturing process
    • Visit FS locations, sub-contractors, customers or field locations to understand root causes for complaints, particularly those that may be manufacturing related
    • Monitor customer rejected material notifications and accumulate data into PPM; track performance data to target levels and identify improved procedures, equipment, materials to error-proof processes
    • Facilitate analysis of business processes that cause customer complaints that are the result of errors made at the division level
    • Evaluate recommended changes to manufacturing processes or components to assure that the change will not affect manufacturing process or finished part performance
    • Conduct and/or coordinate quality sorts at third party distribution warehouse or customer facility
    • Assess quality system effectiveness and efficiency of Firestone assembly operations and division offices
    • Follow up with operations regarding containment actions and corrective/preventive actions implemented due to quality problems experienced by Firestone assembly operations, OE customers or field performance
    • Conduct audits to ISO/TS standards or customer requirements Firestone assembly operations
    • Use statistical tools and other problem solving methods to analyze procedures, processes and product to reduce or eliminate sources of variation


     Qualifications Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations, or other related field required
    • 4+ years progressively responsible Manufacturing/Engineering experience
    • ISO9001 experience
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
    • Willingness to travel up to 40%

    Qualifications Preferred:

    • Experience interfacing with customer base
    • Six Sigma Certification
    • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and IATF 16949
    • Experience conducting internal audits and/or hosting external auditors
    • Quality and/or manufacturing experience in automotive industry
    • Experience using SAP software
